Roman Slowinski

Roman S³owiñski is a Professor and Founding Head of the Laboratory of Intelligent Decision Support Systems within the Institute of Computing Science, Poznañ University of Technology, Poland. He received the M.Sc. in Computer Science, Ph.D. in Operations Research and Habilitation in Computing Science from the Poznañ University of Technology, in 1974, 1977 and 1981, respectively. He has been a full professor since 1989. Since 2002, he holds, moreover, professor’s position at the Institute of Systems Research, Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw. He has been professor on European Chair at the University of Paris Dauphine and invited professor at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne and at the University of Catania. He held also other visiting university appointments in several other universities in Europe, America and Asia. His research concerns Computing Science, particularly, Operational Research and Artificial Intelligence, including Knowledge-Based Decision Support in Medicine, Technology and Economics, Rough Set and Fuzzy Set Approaches to Knowledge and Data Engineering, Multiple-Criteria Decision Analysis, Preference Modeling and Project Scheduling. He is laureate of the EURO Gold Medal (1991), Doctor Honoris Causa of Polytechnic Faculty of Mons (2000) and Doctor Honoris Causa of University of Paris Dauphine (2001). In 2004, he was elected member of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Since 1999, he is Editor-in-Chief of the "European Journal of Operational Research", and from 1998 to 2003, he was Editor of Decision Analysis Section of the "International Journal on Fuzzy Sets and Systems". He organized the First International Workshop on Rough Set Theory and Applications in Poznañ, in 1991. He was program committee chair or member of many international conferences on Operations Research and Computer Science. He published over two hundred scientific articles in major international journals and books, and supervised twenty Ph.D. theses in Computer Science.
